Questions about this book

I use ChatGPT most days already. Is the first half wasted on me?
The first six chapters, yes — they build on each other from the sign-up screen. Skip to Part Four. Files, images, Custom Instructions, Memory, Custom GPTs and Projects are the chapters regular users have usually not touched, and they are the ones that change the shape of the work rather than the quality of one answer.
There are thousands of free videos about ChatGPT. Why pay for a book?
The videos are not wrong, they are unsearchable and unordered. Each one covers a feature at a moment in time, so you learn what the algorithm shows you and never find out what you skipped. A 154-page PDF is one pass in a deliberate order, and you can search it in three seconds at the point the problem appears rather than scrubbing a timeline. If free video suits how you learn, use it — this is honestly the wrong purchase for you.
Do I need ChatGPT Plus?
No, and the book marks the paid-only parts rather than letting you hit a wall. Chapter 2 is about understanding the plans, and it includes the case for staying on free. Where a chapter genuinely depends on a paid feature, it says so at the top so you can skip it without losing the thread.
How much of it is about writing prompts?
Three chapters of nineteen, plus a fifty-template appendix. The rest is about the product: what the interface does, what files and images can be used for, how memory and custom instructions behave, when to trust output and when not to. Prompting is a means here, not the subject.
What is deliberately left out?
The API, agents and anything requiring code. Sora and the video tools are not covered. Nor is any comparison shopping between ChatGPT and its competitors — this book assumes you have already chosen, and the Starter Pack is the one that helps you choose.
Will the screenshots be out of date by the time I read it?

Is 154 pages enough for a "complete" guide?
It is not marketed as complete, and that is deliberate. It is nineteen chapters that take a beginner to competent, plus a cheat sheet, a glossary and fifty templates. If you want the longest book in the catalogue, that is the Claude guide at 288 pages — a different product for a different tool.
Is this endorsed by OpenAI?
No. It is independent and says so in its own front matter. Product names are used to identify the software it describes, nothing more.
